Distance education is here to stay. I see distance education as an advancement of face-to-face and being implemented to meet the needs of our diverse learners. Distance provides alternatives and offers it users flexibility. I also agree with Dr. Simonson that distance education will continue to grow, but not in a revoultionary way (Laureate, 2008). Thre is no need to advertise or promote distance education, but there is the need to support these programs. Support can be provided in the form of how these programs are designed, accessed, used, researched, and accepted. I think distance education is going through the rate of adoption. There are concerns with distance education as there are with any new innovation.

I agree that distance education is here to stay. In the near future, I can invision people completing their online discussions or other assignments on an advanced cell phone while they are traveling. Although distance education may not meet all learners' expectations, it is rapidly moving toward acceptance. With its flexibility, I think that it has allowed many learners to attain an education who may not have without the convenience. Therefore, distance education has opened up new opportunities and futures for people that can not travel to campus for various reasons. Also, distance education has helped support globalization and diversity.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the fact that distant education is here to stay. I just worry about people perception about this education. I still need to explain and defend my current studies. People believe is more easy because is online.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what yo wrote except I do believe that in many areas, distance eduction needs to advertise. I know of many people who are still unfamiliar with it and do not realize the potential it has.
ReplyDeleteGood post, but I feel that you still need to advertise in some sense the power and advantages of distance education. You need to promote the programs, the schools, and the accrediation.
ReplyDeleteMore adults may be the target now but you will find that the focus will be moved toward getting the enrollment from the graduating seniors.
